May 2000 at the Market:

The Future of the North Market Building

Preliminary discussions are underway between the City, the SLNA and other interested parties about the possibilities for making better use of the North Market site. The City has set up an Initiative Room on the west side of the North Market, showing the North Market as it was, is and might have been. The room is currently staffed part-time, but you can look in the windows other times. More information when it's available.

Year 2000 Events at the Market

The Market is working on several events for the year. We'll have more details as the plans develop. Meantime, there are links for some of them so you can check last year's This Month pages.

June 16
5 & 10K Runs
The Market is sponsoring this fundraiser for prostate cancer research. Both runs start and finish at the Market.

June 17
Father's Day and SLNA Picnic
Take Dad to the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Picnic, an annual event that gets bigger and better every year. Non-stop activities throughout the neighbourhood for the whole family from early morning to late evening.

This year, the Market is sponsoring two trains to shuttle people around the neighbourhood. And, of course, to and from the Market where, rumour has it, there may be a beer garden on the South Market promenade.

June 24
Strawberry Social
Just as soon as the Ontario strawberries are ready, the St. Lawrence Market merchants want to treat you to strawberries dipped in chocolate. Last year's event is here.

July 1
Canada Day

August 5
Simcoe Day Corn Roast
Free corn on the cob, compliments of the Market merchants, at the 4th annual Simcoe Day Corn Roast. Last year's event here.

Sept. 23-24
Global Roots Festival
Like last year, with even more dancing (if that's possible). Last year's plans here.

October 7
Thanksgiving/Yom Kippur/Fall Harvest Festival

October 28
Hallowe'en

November 4
Farmers' Market Anniversary
To mark the 197th anniversary of continuous service to Toronto, there will be free birthday cake for everyone and balloons for the kids. Come and celebrate with us!

November 11
Remembrance Day

December
Toy Drive (in conjunction with BIA)

December 22
Christmas/Hanukkah
