Fall Harvest Art Contest

Inspired by the festival of fall colours that emerge this time of year, the St. Lawrence Market, historically a colourful showplace of nature's bounty, invites young artists to display their own version of "Fall Harvest."

20 artists will each be awarded a pumpkin and a $50 gift certificate. Winning entries will be displayed in The Market Gallery from October 23 to November 14, 1998. Details and an entry form are at the end of this link.

Now Showing at The Market Gallery: 150 Years of Consumers Gas

Consumers Gas Display at the CNE, 1928 Since its incorporation in 1848, Consumers Gas has been contributing to the growth of the City of Toronto and surrounding communities by, among other things, introducing gas street lighting in the late 19th century and developing new labour-saving devices for household chores.

Visitors to the exhibit will be able to view historical and contemporary photographs, artifacts, paintings and archival records from both the archival collections of Consumers Gas and the City. More information here.

Coming Soon to the Market

Throughout November and December, things will be happening at the Market, including a Toy Drive, Incredible Edibles, and other seasonal events. Rumour has it that Santa will end his annual parade on our doorstep! Watch this space for further details.

What's New on the Market Website?

Well, actually, it's all new. Since we posted the first pages on September 3, 1998, we've been working hard to get the rest of the pages ready for your viewing pleasure. All the main sections are now up and we invite you to explore them and then let us know what you think. You can e-mail your comments direct to the Market manager at market@stlawrencemarket.com, or to the Webminder via the link at the bottom of the page.

Cornucopia graphic We are currently working on Shopping at the Market which will eventually allow you to find all the butchers or bakers (or candle-stick makers) at the Market. These pages should be appearing soon. And in the longer term, we will be expanding the Market Links and Resources section, so if you have suggestions, please send them along.
