December Events at the Market

Happenings at the Market during the month of December include the following.

TORONTO DOLLAR GRANTS PRESENTATION
On the first anniversary of the Toronto Dollar, December 16th, Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman, surrounded by representatives of the Toronto Dollar and Market merchants, presented Toronto Dollar grants totalling $5000 to various St. Lawrence neighbourhood community groups, including one to support free dance classes for young people.

A new Toronto Dollar initiative was also announced. The "Toronto Dollar Neighbourhood Innovation Arts Award," for people overcoming the challenges of poverty, recognizes talent and achievement in both graphic and literary arts. Further information on the Award and on the Toronto Dollar can be found at the Toronto Dollar website.
GOVERNOR GENERAL VISITS THE MARKET
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, and His Excellency John Ralston Saul, visited the St. Lawrence Market on Saturday, December 11th. Market Manager Jorge Carvalho and Joy Kogawa, President of the Toronto Dollar Inc., escorted Their Excellencies to the Toronto Dollar booth where they purchased the local currency. Afterwards, Madame Clarkson and Mr. Ralston Saul toured the market, shopping and mingling with shoppers and merchants.
TOY DRIVE
