Brown Brothers Meats, the oldest Market butcher, has been in the St. Lawrence Market since 1895! The Brown family ran a wholesale butcher shop for over 60 years before Anthony bought the business in the 1970s. Anthony’s family had been in the meat business for over 50 years and owned several businesses throughout the City. Anthony learned his butcher skills working in the family enterprises since 1958.

Anthony sought to preserve the rich history and traditions of Brown Brothers, displaying enlarged photos of the original owners taken in the 1890’s. He modernized the business; he was the first meat vendor in the Market to sell directly to the public on a daily basis and to display various cuts of meat in cases for the public to purchase. He also claims to be the first butcher to introduce to the Market pea-meal bacon from an old family recipe. It has become one of the most famous products sold at the Market to this day.

Brown Brothers offers a complete line of quality meats and meat products. Beef, pork, chicken, lamb and milk-fed veal are sold retail and wholesale. They offer all cuts of meat: ribs, chops, steaks, roasts, ground meats, sausages, souvlaki, and whole or cut-up chickens.  Go Back
