This small boutique at the south end of the Lower Level of the Market has become known for its selection of Egyptian belly dance costumes and accessories. Dalia’s also carries a wide range of Middle Eastern casual wear such as caftans, scarves, slippers, silver jewellry, bags and other accessories suitable for both men and women.
The owner, Waell Soliman, started selling imported jewellry and other items from the Middle East at the Market at a young age after finishing High School. Over the past few years he has expanded his business to include a wide range of decorative costume ware from the Middle East.
He gets many repeat customers who enjoy belly dancing for exercise, fun or dance professionally. Many of the dancers who appear at the Sultan’s Tent on Front Street regularly shop at his boutique for their colourful costumes, bejewelled dancing slippers, jangley coin belts and headbands.
Waell believes that, at 25, he is one of the youngest shop owners in the Market. In the years he has been selling at the Market, he has seen the demand for belly dancing costumes, accessories, CDs of Middle Eastern music, and instructional DVDs expand every year. He imports clothing, jewellry and accessories from Egypt, Turkey, Greece and Morocco. You don’t have to be into belly dancing to find beautiful and unusual items to bring a sparkle to your wardrobe.
