Stroll through some of Old Town Toronto’s most historically significant buildings, take in a visit to the Market Gallery, and sample delicious food from Market merchants. WHEN: St. Lawrence Food & Market Tours with Bruce Bell are held Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, starting at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and lasting 2 hours. The 10 a.m. tour can be for individuals, two people or groups large or small. The 2 p.m. tour is reserved ONLY for large groups. On Saturdays, there is only a 10 a.m. tour and reservations are a must, as it books up quickly. Call 647-393-8687 to ensure a spot in the tour of your choice.

WHERE: Meet just inside the main entrance of the South St. Lawrence Market (93 Front Street East, southwest corner of Jarvis and Front Streets, Toronto). Buy your tickets at the Market Souvenir Shop which is on your left hand side as you enter the South St. Lawrence Market.

WHAT:
This unique 2-hour tour includes:

square blue bullet    an approximately 45-minute guided walk through the St. Lawrence Market, hearing about its fascinating 200-year history, as well as stops along the way to sample food from various vendors (usually 6 to 8 stops, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian samples)

square blue bullet    a visit to the Market Gallery on the 2nd floor where you can view the current historical exhibition. See the Market Gallery website for more information

square blue bullet    a visit to the infamous jail in the basement of the Market where, back in the 1840s when Toronto’s Second City Hall occupied the site, prisoners were chained to the wall

square blue bullet    an outside stroll to:
  • the North Market, where it all began back in 1803
  • Toronto's First Post Office (1833)
  • St. James Cathedral, Park and Cemetery
  • the St. Lawrence Hall, with its gas-lit Great Hall
  • Villages Native Arts and Craft on Front Street, retailers of authentic First Nations crafts


HOW MUCH: $25.00 per person (group rates available on request). Tickets can be reserved by calling 647-393-8687 or purchased at the Souvenir Market (South St. Lawrence Market, Upper Level 23, just inside the main doors).

PLEASE NOTE: It’s best to call ahead and reserve a date as tours can quickly book up. Also special arrangements can be made to accommodate wheelchair, scooters and strollers.

La visite historique et gastronomique du marché St Lawrence vous est proposée en français, la visite inclue la visite de la vieille ville de Toronto (Old Town of York) et la dégustation d’échantillons de produits proposés sur le marché, apprendre à acheter selon les saisons et inclue aussi une visite explicative et historique du complexe du marché, qui propose plus de 59 vendeurs spécialisés.

Les tickets dont le prix est de $25 sont disponibles à la boutique souvenir du Marché, située à l’est de l’entrée du marché.
