JANE'S WALK - ROLE OF PUBLIC MARKETS

2019-05-03

What makes a great public space, and what role can public markets play in placemaking? St. Lawrence Market is currently in the process of planning activities for 2019, and this walk is a great opportunity to help influence the thinking. Join us on this walking conversation as we discover the different types of public spaces in and around the St. Lawrence Market, and explore questions like:

  • What makes a great public market, and what makes a market a great public space?
  • What are the qualities of great public spaces?
  • What are flex streets and how do they contribute to placemaking?
  • How do public and private spaces relate to each other? How can the public and private sectors work together to create welcoming and engaging spaces?
  • How can temporary placemaking activities animate public spaces?
  • What is the Market's connection to the local community?

This walk will stop at several key points around the Market, including Market Street, the Farmers Market, parks on The Esplanade, and will wrap up on a mezzanine overlooking the interior of the Market!

After the walk, feel free to grab a tasty lunch and enjoy an afternoon of shopping at the Market and the Farmers Market.

If you're interested in attending, please meet in front of the North Market Redevelopment site on the north side of Front Street and Jarvis Street.
